Top Of The Range

This bench was commissioned by a client in Canberra who has limited time for woodworking and wanted to enjoy every second he spent. The bench is based on Benchcrafted plans provided by the client with variations to allow for the custom hardware supplied.

The majority of the timber is from a single Jarrah tree, co-incidentally felled in Jarrah Court, Toodyay. There is significant curly or fiddle-back feature in this timber, which makes it a pleasure and revealing to lookout from any angle.

The client supplied wooden screws for the leg and tail vices, as well as a Benchcrafted criss-cross for the leg vice.

The top of the bench was made from two pieces of Jarrah 100mm thick and there is no lamination involved. Yes, that is two pieces of 100mm thick Jarrah.

The bench dogs were hand made using Ash springs and were fitted into the Tuart dog strip.
